Chemical energy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004267
The potential energy stored within the bonds of chemical compounds, which can be released or absorbed during chemical reactions. In atmospheric science, this energy is relevant to processes such as the formation and destruction of ozone, where ultraviolet radiation drives reactions that convert chemical energy. The combustion of fossil fuels also releases chemical energy, contributing to atmospheric composition changes.
