Photochemical reaction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010661
A chemical reaction initiated by the absorption of light energy, typically from ultraviolet or visible radiation. In the atmosphere, these reactions are responsible for the formation and destruction of ozone in the stratosphere and the production of photochemical smog in the troposphere. The absorption of a photon provides the activation energy for the chemical transformation.
