Soil moisture tension
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009017
The force per unit area that must be applied to extract water from the soil, also known as matric potential. It reflects the energy with which water is held by soil particles and is a measure of the water's availability to plants. Soil moisture tension is commonly expressed in units of pressure, such as kilopascals or bars.
