Moisture tension

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007377

The force per unit area that must be exerted to extract water from a porous medium, such as soil, against the forces of capillarity and adsorption. It represents the energy status of water in the soil and is inversely related to the soil's water content. This tension is commonly measured in units of pressure, such as kilopascals or bars.
