Capillary head

The equivalent height of a column of water that represents the negative pressure or tension with which water is held in a porous medium due to capillary forces. It is a measure of the energy status of water in unsaturated soil, often expressed in units of length such as centimeters or meters. This value is always negative, indicating suction.
