Capillary potential

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004146

The component of the total soil water potential that arises from the forces of capillarity and adsorption, representing the energy status of water held in small pores and on particle surfaces. It is always negative, indicating that work must be done to extract water from the soil. This potential is a key factor in determining water movement in unsaturated soils.
