Capillary forces

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004142

The intermolecular forces that arise from the surface tension of a liquid in contact with a solid, particularly within narrow spaces. These forces cause liquids to rise or fall in small tubes or porous materials, influencing the movement of water in soil and vegetation. They are responsible for phenomena like water absorption by plant roots.
