Solifluction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009044
The slow flow of water-saturated soil and regolith down a slope, especially in periglacial environments where freeze-thaw cycles are common. This process is driven by gravity and the lubricating effect of water within the thawed layer above permafrost or frozen ground. Solifluction lobes and terraces are characteristic landforms resulting from this mass movement.
