Periglacial climate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007857

A climate characterized by intense freeze-thaw cycles and the presence of permafrost, typically found in areas adjacent to glaciers or ice sheets, or in high-latitude regions. These conditions lead to distinctive geomorphological processes and landforms, such as patterned ground, solifluction, and ice wedges. Periglacial environments are highly sensitive to changes in temperature and precipitation.
