Earth hummock
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005221
A small, rounded mound of soil and vegetation found in periglacial environments, formed by freeze-thaw cycles. These features result from differential frost heaving, where ice lenses grow and push the ground surface upward. Earth hummocks are a form of patterned ground indicative of permafrost or seasonally frozen ground and can be a few decimeters to over a meter in height.
