Heaving

Describing the upward and downward vertical motion of an air parcel or a surface, often associated with atmospheric instability or wave phenomena. This process is a key component of convection, where warmer, less dense air rises. Heaving can also refer to the vertical oscillation of an instrument platform in response to environmental forces.
