Frost blister

A small, dome-shaped mound that forms on the ground surface due to the localized accumulation of ice beneath a thin layer of soil or vegetation. It occurs when water in the soil freezes and expands, pushing up the overlying material. These features are common in permafrost regions or during periods of shallow ground freezing.
