Adfreezing

The process by which a frozen layer of soil or ice adheres to and exerts upward or downward forces on an object embedded within it. This phenomenon is particularly relevant in permafrost regions where it can cause frost heave or structural damage to foundations. The strength of adfreezing depends on factors like soil type, moisture content, and temperature.
