Exposure

The specific manner in which a meteorological instrument is situated and subjected to the elements, including its height, orientation, and shielding from interfering factors. Proper exposure is necessary to obtain measurements that are representative of the surrounding atmosphere and comparable with data from other locations. For example, a standard thermometer is housed in a ventilated screen placed 1.25 to 2 meters above a grass surface.
