Terpenes
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009556
A class of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted into the atmosphere primarily by vegetation, especially coniferous trees. These hydrocarbons are highly reactive and contribute to the formation of secondary organic aerosols, ozone, and other photochemical smog components. Isoprene is the most abundant terpene emitted by plants, influencing both air quality and climate on a global scale.
