Isoprene
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006712
A volatile organic compound (C5H8) emitted in large quantities by many species of vegetation, particularly deciduous trees. In the atmosphere, isoprene is highly reactive and is a primary precursor to the formation of secondary organic aerosols and tropospheric ozone, especially in the presence of nitrogen oxides and sunlight. Its emissions are strongly dependent on temperature and light, peaking on hot, sunny days.
