Tropospheric ozone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009818
Ozone (O3) that is present in the troposphere, the lowest layer of the Earth's atmosphere. Unlike stratospheric ozone, which protects from harmful UV radiation, tropospheric ozone is a harmful air pollutant and a greenhouse gas. It is primarily formed through photochemical reactions involving nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds in the presence of sunlight.
