Tropospheric scatter

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009819

A phenomenon where radio waves are scattered by irregularities in the refractive index of the troposphere, allowing for beyond-line-of-sight communication. This scattering enables signals to be received at distances greater than the optical horizon. Tropospheric scatter communication systems operate in the UHF and microwave frequency bands.
