Single-scatter albedo

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008890

The ratio of the radiation scattered by a particle to the total radiation extinguished by that particle, including both scattering and absorption. In atmospheric radiation, it quantifies how much incident solar radiation an aerosol or cloud particle redirects versus absorbs. A value of 1 indicates pure scattering, while 0 indicates pure absorption.
