Forward scatter
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005730
The scattering of electromagnetic radiation, such as light or radar waves, in a direction generally aligned with the original direction of propagation. In meteorology, this phenomenon is used in instruments like transmissometers to measure visibility by detecting the amount of light scattered by atmospheric particles. It is particularly sensitive to larger particles like fog droplets.
