Visibility meter

An instrument designed to objectively measure atmospheric visibility by determining the extinction coefficient of the atmosphere. These devices typically operate by measuring the scattering or transmission of a light beam over a known path. Transmissometers and forward scatter meters are common types of visibility meters.
