Asymmetry factor

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003656

A parameter used in radiative transfer calculations to describe the angular distribution of scattered radiation by a particle. It represents the average cosine of the scattering angle, indicating whether scattering is predominantly forward (positive values) or backward (negative values). A value of zero implies isotropic scattering, while values closer to one or minus one indicate strong forward or backward scattering, respectively.
