Asymptotic expansion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003657

A mathematical series that approximates a function for large values of its argument, where the terms of the series become progressively smaller. While the series itself may diverge, truncating it after a certain number of terms can provide a good approximation. This technique is applied in atmospheric science to solve complex equations, such as those describing wave propagation or boundary layer dynamics, under specific limiting conditions.
