Method of characteristics

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007261

A mathematical technique used to solve partial differential equations, particularly those of hyperbolic type, which describe wave propagation phenomena. In atmospheric science, it can be applied to analyze the behavior of atmospheric waves or to solve equations governing fluid flow. This method transforms the partial differential equations into a system of ordinary differential equations along specific curves.
