Separation of variables

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008801

A mathematical technique used to solve certain types of partial differential equations by assuming that the solution can be expressed as a product of functions, each depending on only one independent variable. In atmospheric science, this method is applied to simplify and solve equations governing atmospheric waves or diffusion processes. It reduces a complex problem into several simpler ordinary differential equations.
