Spectral method

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009105

A numerical technique used to solve partial differential equations by representing the unknown functions as a sum of basis functions, often sines, cosines, or spherical harmonics. This approach transforms the differential equations into algebraic equations in the spectral domain. Spectral methods are known for their high accuracy and are widely employed in atmospheric and oceanic modeling.
