Spectral model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009106
A type of numerical weather prediction model that represents atmospheric variables as a sum of basis functions, typically spherical harmonics, rather than on a grid. This approach efficiently handles global domains and avoids certain numerical artifacts associated with grid-point models. The resolution of the model is determined by the maximum wavenumber included in the expansion.
