A method for solving partial differential equations, particularly hyperbolic ones, by transforming them into a system of ordinary differential equations along specific curves in space-time. In atmospheric modeling, this technique is used to track the propagation of discontinuities or waves, such as shock waves or fronts. It is often applied in numerical weather prediction models for advection schemes.
