Coefficient of thermal expansion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004480
A material property that quantifies how much a substance's size changes in response to a change in temperature. In the atmosphere, it describes the expansion or contraction of air parcels as their temperature changes. For an ideal gas at constant pressure, this coefficient is approximately the reciprocal of the absolute temperature.
