Backward scattering coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003776

A measure of the amount of light scattered by a medium in the direction opposite to the incident radiation. It quantifies the efficiency with which atmospheric particles redirect light back towards the source. This coefficient is used in lidar systems to determine aerosol concentrations and cloud base heights.
