Scattering cross section
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008691
A hypothetical area that represents the effective target size of a particle for scattering incident radiation. It quantifies the likelihood of a scattering event occurring when a photon interacts with a single particle. This value is expressed in units of area, such as square meters, and varies with particle size, shape, and the wavelength of the incident radiation.
