Differential backscattering cross section
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004982
A measure of the power scattered by a unit volume of atmospheric particles back towards the radiation source, per unit of incident power density and per unit of solid angle. This quantity relates the received signal strength from active remote sensing instruments like radar and lidar to the physical properties of the scatterers. The value is expressed in units of inverse length per steradian (m⁻¹ sr⁻¹).
