Single-heading navigation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010758
An aircraft navigation technique where a pilot flies a constant magnetic heading for a segment of a flight, allowing the wind to drift the aircraft. This method contrasts with tracking a specific ground course, which requires continuous heading adjustments to counteract changes in the wind. Single-heading navigation is simpler to fly but requires careful pre-flight planning using wind forecasts to predict the resulting track and destination.
