Instrument flight

A flight conducted solely by reference to the instruments in the cockpit, without reliance on visual cues from outside the aircraft. This type of flight is necessary when weather conditions, such as low visibility or cloud cover, prevent pilots from maintaining visual contact with the ground or other aircraft. Instrument flight requires specific pilot training and aircraft certification.
