Pressure-pattern flight
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010687
A method of aircraft navigation that involves flying along a path of constant atmospheric pressure, or isobar, to take advantage of favorable winds. This technique aims to minimize flight time or fuel consumption by selecting altitudes where tailwinds are strongest or headwinds are weakest. It requires accurate knowledge of upper-air pressure charts.
