Tailwind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009490
A wind that blows in the same general direction as the movement of an object, such as an aircraft or a ship, thereby increasing its speed relative to the ground or water. This atmospheric condition reduces the amount of thrust or power required for forward motion. Pilots often seek tailwinds to decrease flight time and fuel consumption.
