Ground speed

The horizontal velocity of an aircraft or other moving object relative to the Earth's surface. It is the vector sum of the aircraft's airspeed and the wind velocity. Air traffic control and flight planning rely on ground speed to calculate estimated time of arrival and fuel consumption.
