Airspeed
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003419
The velocity of an aircraft or other object relative to the surrounding air mass through which it is moving. It is measured by a Pitot-static system that compares the total pressure at the front of the aircraft with the static pressure of the ambient atmosphere. Airspeed differs from groundspeed, which is the aircraft's speed relative to a fixed point on the Earth's surface and is affected by wind.
