Airspeed
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000146
The velocity of an aircraft relative to the mass of air through which it is flying. It is a primary flight instrument reading, distinct from groundspeed, which is the aircraft's speed over the Earth's surface. Airspeed is measured by a pitot-static system that compares static air pressure with the dynamic pressure of the air entering a forward-facing tube.
