Describing air or atmosphere with lower density, typically found at higher altitudes or in warmer conditions. Thin air reduces engine performance, propeller efficiency, and aerodynamic lift, requiring longer takeoff rolls and higher true airspeeds for a given indicated airspeed. Aircraft performance charts account for operations in thin air.
