Thimble

A grooved metal or plastic fitting placed inside the eye of a wire rope, fiber rope, or cable sling. It protects the rope from abrasion, crushing, and sharp bends at the connection point, preserving its strength and extending its service life. Thimbles are specified by the rope diameter they are designed to fit and are available in standard-duty and heavy-duty versions for different load requirements.
