Rope

A decorative element in ceramics resembling a twisted cord, created by extruding or hand-rolling two or more strands of clay together. This technique is applied to the surface of a piece, often around the rim or base of a pot, to add texture and visual interest before firing. The effect mimics the appearance of a fiber rope and is a common feature in traditional pottery forms.
