Describing a ceramic piece that has not had a layer of slip applied to its surface. The natural clay body remains exposed, either as the final finish or as a base for direct glazing or other decorative techniques. This contrasts with slipped ware, which features an additional layer of liquid clay for aesthetic or functional purposes.
