Underfire
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006330
To subject ceramic ware to a firing temperature that is too low or for a duration that is too short for the specific clay body or glaze. This process can result in insufficient vitrification, leading to a porous, weak, and often dull finish. Underfiring prevents the clay from reaching its full maturity and the glaze from melting properly.
