Glaze

A vitreous coating applied to ceramic objects to provide a decorative finish, seal the porous body, and make the surface impervious to liquids. It consists of finely ground minerals, such as silica, fluxes, and stabilizers, suspended in water. During firing, the glaze melts and fuses to the ceramic body, forming a durable, glass-like layer.
