Biscuit firing

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000568

The initial firing of raw, unfired clay (greenware) to a temperature sufficient to harden it and remove all chemical water, but not high enough to vitrify it. This process makes the ceramic piece strong enough to handle for glazing without disintegrating. The resulting ware, known as bisque, is porous and ready to absorb glaze.
