Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002296

The process of heating ceramic materials to high temperatures in a kiln or open fire to harden and permanently alter their physical and chemical properties. This heat treatment removes water, causes sintering, and can vitrify the clay body, making it durable and non-plastic. Firing schedules vary significantly depending on the type of clay and desired outcome, ranging from 700°C for bisque to over 1300°C for porcelain.
