Bonfire
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000685
A method of firing ceramic wares in an open-air setting, using combustible materials like wood, straw, or dung as fuel. This primitive firing technique achieves relatively low temperatures compared to kiln firing, resulting in porous, earthenware ceramics. Bonfire firing often produces unique surface effects and varied coloration due to uneven heat distribution and direct contact with flames.
