Raku

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004686

A Japanese pottery firing technique that involves removing ceramic ware from the kiln at peak temperature and allowing it to cool rapidly in a combustible material. This process creates unique and unpredictable surface effects, such as crackling and metallic lusters, due to the reduction atmosphere. The rapid cooling and post-firing reduction distinguish Raku from other ceramic firing methods.
