Soak

To hold a ceramic kiln at a specific high temperature for an extended period during the firing cycle. This sustained heat allows glazes to fully mature, melt, and flow evenly, and for the ceramic body to achieve optimal vitrification. A soak period can range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the clay body and glaze composition.
